STAY

It's very difficult to just...stay

I know there are concentration lords among us, but really, for some of us it's a serious battle.

You may have seen some parents play that game with their kids where they put candies in front of the kids but ask them not to touch the candies until a certain time. It's always hilarious the things those kids do in a bid to just...stay😂. Some count, some wonder, some sing, some try to play...all the while hoping their waiting time could just come to an end😁

Aren't we that way sometimes? God places us somewhere and asks us to stay till He's ready (or we're ready) to move to the next phase. An idea. A business. A relationship. A job. A location. A career path... But then, things happen and it gradually becomes difficult to just stay where He has placed us. Challenges happen, comparison happens, unmet expectations happen, life happens, and it begins to get uneasy and uncomfortable to just...stay.

Like those kids, we want to do a thousand and one other things while we're 'staying'. We're checking out the next trend, next big deal, next investment option, next course, next available job, next available guy or lady, next, next, next...! We then lose sight of the journey and the present because we're so engrossed in "next, please." "Can we just move on already? What will the next phase look like? Is it going to be better than this one? When will we finally arrive at that place called "there"? How much longer will it take?"... Questions upon questions about the next.

But He asked you to stay... And you'll be better for it if you just...stay☺️

Here's another area where we don't like to just stay: Being still before God. The mind battle is real!😂 I try to convince myself to block out the noise and just focus. In my mind, I'd be screaming, "Focus, Precious. Just be still. Sit at the Father's feet, gaze into His eyes, ask Him questions..." Just then, a thought of something I need to get done pops up... and then another... and another... and I finally lose focus. Again. Paul put it succinctly when he said he finds himself doing what he doesn't want to do. Indeed, it's a war guys.

But I'm learning how to just stay. One thing that helps when I'm getting too distracted during my time with the Lord is to note the things that pop up. Write them down. Once this is done, you won't be too scared to refocus and put the thought in the cooler because your mind ticks it as noted. It's then easier to focus. And if it's something that just won't stop popping up, I do something about it so I can focus on Jesus in peace☺️ (Note: Sometimes the things that pop up are instructions from God as well. Noting them down still helps all the same).

In what areas are you struggling to stay? Have you found out where God even wants you in the first place? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

In other news, have you gotten a copy of my husband's book yet? Oh, I didn't tell you it was out?! I am sooo sorry! The Ignorant Heir is out💃 and it's such a delightful read!!!
