STAYED ON YOU

While pondering on what God would have me share on the blog this week, a song by minister Eben, "stayed on you", came to mind.

There are many passages of scripture that talk about setting our hearts on Jesus, on eternity and on things above (See Heb 12:2) and the reality is, it is OUR duty to keep our hearts and minds focused on God. It's very easy to lose track and get distracted but you reap a delightful harvest when you keep your heart fixed on Him.

Last week, I remember saying that you shouldn't expect to receive from God if your heart is set on your situation, or focused on any other thing asides Him. In Isaiah 24:3, God says He will keep in perfect peace, those whose minds are stayed on Him (paraphrased). Every time I read that scripture, peace just overwhelms me! However, I have come to the much needed understanding that it is a pact; our part is to keep our minds focused on Him and He will ensure we are in peace about whatsoever the situation might be.

In Phillipians 4 verses 6 and 7, Paul by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit talks about turning everything to God in prayer and His peace that passes all understanding will overshadow us. In light of this scripture, you might as well say that one way to keep your heart fixed on Jesus, is to make Him the center of your life; let nothing slip past Him. Tell Him everything and anything. Talk to Him more often than you speak to people. When your mind tries to drift to worry and anxiety, realize that you have handed your cares to God and He will take care of it. Don't take them back on your shoulder. Instead, praise Him. Magnify Him bigger than the situation; bigger than life itself and whatsoever it may bring.

As you do this, you will realize that your heart is not focused on the problem (which by the way changes nothing about the situation) but on God who is able to do something about the problem. You will realize that your heart is fixed on the One who is actually worth all of your attention - Jesus.

Moreover, we could also be so focused on ourselves that we forget God. Success, failure, beauty etc. These things could easily lure one into focusing on themselves and taking their eyes off God. Lean on the Holy Spirit to help you subdue your flesh and not seek to gratify it.

Keep your heart and mind stayed on Him.

Much love,
Precious.
